More? Seriously?

My geeky darlings- you have heard of this, yes?

I suppose I have made no effort to keep track of the Star Trek related "things," but I honestly thought that Star Trek was, well... kinda over. (Is this sacrilegious? I apologize. I am of the ignorant on matters relating to Star Trek.)

But, if you are one of those who loves all things Star Trek, I hope, for your sake, that this is really good. The actors look very, um, dewy.

Yeah. Did you know Simon Pegg is gonna be Scotty? That's what sold me.

I haven't really enjoyed anything Star Trek related since Deep Space Nine.

That's the teaser they showed before Cloverfield in January.

For those who care, it's been pushed back to next May, not this Christmas.

Also, the science creature inside of me screams at the idea of a star ship that can't land being built in an open air environment. Sure, the modular aspects of the ship would be manufactured on Earth or some planetary body, but the assembly of a ship that massive should take place in orbit.

Of course this movie plans to be more like Star Wars and less like Star Trek, so the science part of "science fiction" can be more of less ignored.

Okay I'll bite.

You know that the air pressure on the inside of the ship has to be about the same as an earth atmosphere anyway, given that they wear normal clothes, breath normally, and beam from planet to planet without getting the bends, so it would make sense to be able to build what you can on earth and assemble in orbit considering it's probably a lot easy to build stuff on the ground.

I don't, however, think you can weld in space.

I heard an astronaut on NPR criticizing the entire Sci-Fi genre mostly based on the whole artificial gravity thing. That's a pretty huge suspension of disbelief we give to every Space Opera franchise. The other stuff is trifles.
