Firefrog!

James Hance mashes up two of my favorite things to grace television.

You can follow his progress on his tumblr and see some of his other great drawing.

Crisis on Earth 2?

When? When? When? When? When? When? When? When? When? When? When?

Good-bye Ms. Jones

Author Diana Wynne Jones died earlier today.

Most people probably know her because she wrote the novel Howl's Moving Castle. My favorite book of hers is A Tale of Time City. If you've never read anything by her, I highly recommend it. If you have kids, feel free to use them as an excuse to buy her books.

CaveMan Science Fiction

Dresden Codak is one of my favorite online comics, though it is published in a lamentably stochastic fashion.

Must Read for Star Wars Geeks

John Scalzi's Guide to the Most Epic FAILs in Star Wars Design.

Bless Scalzi's geeky heart; who among us has not had similar thoughts or conversations?

Really?

My first thought upon seeing the above picture was not Sarlacc Pit.

(To be fair, though, as I got older, when I saw that scene in Jedi, all I could really see was the teeth and that made me think of being bitten.)

FARSCAPE IS COMING BACK TO DVD! IN A SERIES SET!

I own the first two episodes twice in my youthful, and vain, attempts to purchase the series the first and second time it was released. Here's to hoping that third time will really be a charm.

A-Z of Awesomeness

Neill Cameron, of Neill's Blog, is working his way through the alphabet:

I have been feeling the need lately to just draw some stuff that is fun, for my own amusement. And so I am going to spend the next month doing just that: drawing STUFF that is AWESOME. And the best part is - you get to tell me what.

This is - patently - inspired by Garen's A-Z of Comic Strip Characters from last year, because.. well, because that was fantastic and looked like a lot of fun to do. I'm widening the remit for my attempt, from comic strips to the wider world of pop cultural entertainment. You may suggest characters from film, animation, TV, literature... anything, really, so long as it is AWESOME.

To keep up to date check out A-Z of Awesomeness.

Here's today's picture:

Edit@3:45PM: It's Mr. Whedon's birthday, too!

Sci Fi Channel to Change Name to ‘Syfy’

I thought that it was just an early April fools joke, but apparently the Sci-Fi channel is changing their name to SyFy. Lame! Check out their new home to be.

Foundation, The Movie

It looks like Asimov's Foundation series is coming to the big screen. Since Roland Emmerich (director of "Independence Day") is on board I imagine they will add more action and one liners-- Your ass is psychohistory!

The First Lady of Star Trek

Majel Barrett Roddenberry died last night, she was 76.

The picture is her playing Number One in the original Star Trek pilot. She was also Nurse Chapel in TOS and appeared as Lwaxana Troi in TNG and DS9 and she regularly played the voice of the Starfleet computers from the 60s until Voyager ended in 2001 and had been cast to do the computer's voice in the new movie. I don't know if she completed the work for the movie.

She also produced two science fiction TV shows based on notes left by her late husband and guest starred in them, too.

Two beautiful, vibrant women dead in two weeks. I sincerely hope that these sort of things don't really happen in threes.

Want to see a map of the solar system where Firefly takes place? You can buy it, too.

Star Trek XI

The full trailer for the next Star Trek movie is out.

It's very pretty, but.... Well. Yeah. It's pretty.

The New/Old Enterprise

The first full shots of the Enterprise from the new movie.

From here.

I can't let people think that Heels is the closest thing to a Trekkie in this bunch.
