Grass Mud Horse

So here's a fun story about using immature humor to annoy censors. Lenny Bruce would approve.

BTW, the NyTimes story can't quite bring itself to spell it out, but Grass Mud Horse is pronounced "Cao Ni Ma" - a synonym for "Fuck your Mother" (used like "Fuck off" in English).

Ricky Gervais and Elmo

As much because it's funny to hear Kevin Clash laugh for real but still in Elmo's voice as to get that frakking Calvin slash crap off the top of the page.

Is This Creepy?

They seem to think this strip is over at Robot 6. (And they think this other one is saccharine.)

So, is it creepy?

A Plea

David Hayter's AN OPEN LETTER FROM A WATCHMEN SCREENWRITER
If the film made you think. Or argue with your friends. If it inspired a debate about the nature of man, or vigilante justice, or the horror of Nixon abolishing term limits. If you laughed at Bowie hanging with Adrian at Studio 54, or the Silhouette kissing that nurse.

Please go see the movie again next weekend.

You have to understand, everyone is watching to see how the film will do in its second week. If you care about movies that have a brain, or balls, (and this film's got both, literally), or true adaptations -- And if you're thinking of seeing it again anyway, please go back this weekend, Friday or Saturday night. Demonstrate the power of the fans, because it'll help let the people who pay for these movies know what we'd like to see. Because if it drops off the radar after the first weekend, they will never allow a film like this to be made again.

Rating Site for People

In what must surely be the last gasp of Web 2.0 insanity we report the launch of PersonRatings, a site where visitors can rate people, anyone, with complete anonymity. Just enter their name, tick some boxes and leave a comment or two, which should in no way be driven by personal animosity or thirst for revenge.

Here's the site: www.personratings.com

I'm not condoning its use.

The rest of you, watch this.

Open Watching the Watchmen Post

Good movie, fine movie or sacrilege?

I liked it. There are some false steps, but not enough to spoil a good effort.

Credits:
*Opening sequence
*Lack of giant squid
*Rorshach largely handled appropriately
*Mostly made sensible choices about what to exclude

Debits:
*Soundtrack choices often distracting
*Some of the speechifying came off as overwrought
*Contained most hilarious sex scene in the history of movies
